We made it to 2022! And now it’s time to start those new year workout regimes. But we all know that starting a new training plan after the Christmas period can be extremely challenging. Luckily we have Sweden’s finest long distance runner and the forever young Mustafa ‘Musse’ Mohamed on hand to provide advice and hopefully give you the push you need this January.
We are also celebrating the news that the forever young Musse has officially been selected to compete for Sweden in the Marathon at this year’s European Championships in Munich. We continue to be amazed by his achievements in the world of sport at the age of 43!!
We took some time to make a short interview with our brand ambassador about the news and his January training plan. Here’s what Musse had to say:
Hey Musse! How was your Christmas?
My Christmas was good. It was nice to spend this time with my family!
Have you been training much over the Christmas period?
Unfortunately I had to give up my training during the Christmas due to a cold.
What does your January training schedule look like?
Slowly getting back in shape. First by doing easy distance training, then step by step add more volume and speed. The goal is to be back in full training by the end of January!
Congratulations on being selected to compete at the European Championships! How does it feel?
I am happy to have been selected for the European Championships in Munich. I look forward to once again being able to put on the national team uniform and run a championship.
What competitions are you training for in the year ahead?
My main goal for 2022 is the European Championships in Munich which will begin in August. Until then I will run some 10k and half marathon races.
What have been your highlights of 2021?
My highlight of 2021 was my marathon race in Enschede April 18th. It was inspiring to run with the world’s best marathon runner Eliud Kipchoge and that I did 2.11.09 even though I didn’t have my best day.
What kind of training gear do you like to wear this time of the year?
Now, when it’s cold outside, my favourite garments for training are the Åsunden Insulation Tights and Åsunden Men’s Hoodie. I also love to train in the Åsunden Beanie and Åsunden Gloves combination. Perfect gear for cold weather workouts!
Are you looking forward to the new Västanede Wool Collection coming in January?
Definitely! I have been looking forward to the new collection release for a long time.
What advice would you give for people looking to start their new year workout plans?
1. Set goals. Think what is it that you want to achieve with your training.
2. Don’t rush! Take your time and build up slowly.
3. Be patient and don’t give up!
