Whilst we were struggling with the last cold days of winter, our ambassador Mustafa Mohamed “Musse” was at training camp with some of the world’s best runners in Ethiopia!
At high altitude, the eternally young 42-year-old makes another investment towards this summer’s Olympics in Tokyo. We had a chat with the humble runner from Sävedalen:
Hey Musse! How has it been at the training camp?
“The top! After a break in training due to a half marathon in Djibouti, I am training fully again here in Sululta, 30 minutes outside Addis Ababa. Due to the high altitude of 2700m above sea level, the training is tougher here than at home. There is simply less oxygen supply to the working muscles”
What is the situation with Covid-19 in Ethiopia?
“Here in Sululta where I am, it’s calm. In the capital Addis Ababa, however, it is a little worse”
What type of workouts have you been doing?
” Today for example, I did a tough interval workout on a large grass surface: 5×5 min + 5×2 min with 90 seconds of rest. It was tough but good workout! I train in the mornings and afternoons and in between I devote myself to work, rest and hanging out with friends. As I said, I also ran a half marathon in Djibouti which was more like a qualitative training session where I was 11th in the time 65.44 in the heat”
You have been working with us to develop the lighter and more functional running collection Söder Mälarstrand, which you have now tested in Ethiopia. What is your impression?
“The new Söder Mälarstrand Shorts and Singlet feel very good! I like that the split is now a little higher up, that they are thinner and that the fabric is even more sustainable! There are also many out here who think they look good, which I can agree with”
When do you plan to compete next?
“My next race is the Hamburg Marathon on April 11, when I will test my form”
Good luck with the rest of your training and with the race in Hamburg!
