Spring is slowly but surely starting to turn into summer and at YMR Track Club, we are leaving some very good months and recharging for a June that will be something really special. Local production, sustainability and functionality will continue to be the common thread when the next collaboration is launched in June.
Early in my life, athletics became my sport. This after closely following the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics on television. Even then, I paid attention not only to the sports performance but also to the clothes that the athletes wore. Later in life I had to compete myself in the Olympics in Sydney after jumping over eight meters in the long jump.
We athletes are constantly striving to get faster and get higher and further. Centimeters and hundreds are often the difference between success and failure. Then clothes and shoes must fit perfectly to get the most out of their performance. This is something we start from in the design process of YMR Track Club. The lightness of the materials, cuts and fits is something we constantly strive to achieve optimally. Then we also want to make the most stylish clothes in the industry.
When I started YMR Track Club, the vision was to create a brand that is locally produced, sustainable and functional and that has one foot in fashion and the other in the world of sports. During the spring, we have released several garments where the vision has never felt so present before. I am incredibly proud of, for example, Utö Running Cap. This cap, which weighs only 33 grams, is perfect for running. Making a cap close, was not quite easy, but we succeeded once again after long and intensive work. Both the knitted fabric on the sides for ventilation and the woven fabric are produced in Sweden’s Textile District, Sjuhärad. Just like our other clothes with knitted and woven fabrics. The fabrics are both ÖKOTEX Class 1-certified and from 100% recycled plastic. The print on the front also has an eco-standard Blue sign. The sewing is done by our friends in Estonia. The result is a high-quality and very durable cap that works just as well to run in as in the deck chair this summer.
We are also incredibly proud of our new shorts and tank tops. With new, light fabric and new fits, Utö Shorts in yellow and burgundy and new Söder Mälarstrand Shorts fit nicely with our tank tops Söder Mälarstrand Men’s Singlet in navy blue and green and Söder Mälarstrand Ladies Singlet Navy. A garment that has become a real customer favorite is also the new Änggården Singlet Navy. You have already realized that Utö Compression Socks and Track Attack Socks in gold and blue are such nice details.
During the spring, we also started new exciting collaborations with Brooklyn Running Company in New York and Grandpa here in Sweden. These stores are two personal favorite stores, which makes it extra fun.
In 1985 I bought my first nail shoes. It was a pair of white and blue Karhu. Since then, the brand has a special place in my heart. On June 14, we will release the limited collection “Sun Run” together with Karhu, which is now run from the USA and is growing rapidly globally. As usual, we have designed and knitted the clothes in Sweden. With a base in off-white and cool stylish colors in yellow and blue, this is a tribute to the Sun Run race, which was last launched in 1983. The community, joy and experience of lifestyle running feels more important than ever after a little over a year of restrictions.
We will also run Sun Run from northern Finland to Sweden. If you want to join, it will work great through the digital solutions that are now available for running. Even if you will not be running under the Midnight Sun from Finland to Sweden, you can share the experience and joy with Sun Run.
My summer ends with the Olympics in Tokyo. This time it will not be as an athlete, but in a completely different form. For athletics is as close to my heart in 2021 as the time I as an eight-year-old followed the Olympics in Los Angeles. Hope you all have a fantastic summer with lots of running, holidays and beautiful sunny days. Thank you for all the support on the journey towards creating the world’s best training clothes.
