At YMR Track Club we are all about celebrating running culture and the global running community. We checked in with Stuart Price, footwear buyer at Running Wearhouse Australia and avid running enthusiast and asked him about Australian running culture and his favorite run.
While we primarily sell our clothes through our website ymrtrackclub.com, YMR Track Club’s collections can also be found at selected retailers around the world. Our clothes are stocked in selected stores from Spanish Cuylás in the west all the way to Tokyo’s Runarx Running Company in the east, Stockholm’s Stadium Pulse and NK Sport in the north to Running Warehouse Australia all the way down in the southern hemisphere.
Australia has some strong selling points that would make any runner green with envy: warm and sunny climates, vast uncrowded nature reserves and long breezy coastal boardwalks. We had a quick chat with Stuart from our Australian friends’ at Running Warehouse to learn more about them and running in Australia:
Tell us a bit about Running Warehouse.
Running Warehouse started up in Australia in 2015 with the goal of being a destination for every runner; from the back of the pack to the front, from the trail to the road or track. We have a big online presence and we try to be more than just an online store by providing product reviews, video content, nutrition and training advice. We also work closely with our partners at Running Warehouse US and Europe, which helps to have a global voice.
How much do you run yourself?
Since stopping competitive running, my weekly mileage has dropped significantly. These days my weekly mileage can be anywhere from 20kms a week 100kms, I tend to just run by feel now which I’ve really been enjoying.
What is your favorite place for running in Australia?
My favourite local run would have to be out in the hills of Perth at a place called Helena Valley. Any Sunday of the year you can turn up for a long run on the trails and know you’ll get some decent company.
Perth, Western Australia
Why does this run have a special place in your heart?
Same time, same place every Sunday, it’s like church for us distance runners. Depending on your training goals and fitness there are loops from 15km up to 33kms over undulating hills. It’s great to get out of the city and enjoy the trails for a few hours with mates.
Tell us about Australian running culture.
Australia has a great running culture. We have some of the biggest participation fun runs in the world with events Sydney City2Surf attracting over 80 000 runners. In recent years there has also been some big growth in trail and off-road events with ultra-marathons, tough mudders and swim-runs.
How important is it for your customers that YMR Track Club has a sustainable approach with, among other things, materials from recycled plastics?
We are seeing from our customers that the latest trend in running apparel doesn’t seem to be a new style or lighter material, like previous seasons but, more a concept of sustainability. By working with companies such as YMR Track Club we are able to provide customers with the performance running apparel they need and telling the story of the sustainable practices and material they want.
What is your favorite garment in the YMR Track Club collection?
My favourite piece would have to be the YMR Track Club Shinjuku Men’s Short. Any distance runner knows that a good quality spilt short is an essential piece of kit.
