BASIC PRINCIPLES FOR RUNNING CLOTHES

When choosing clothes for a half marathon, it’s important to focus on functionality,
material, and fit. Running is intense on the body, so clothing should be
adapted for movement and sweat. The three key principles are:

  • Technical fabrics: Choose materials that wick moisture from the skin and dry quickly. Avoid cotton, which absorbs sweat and can cause chafing.

  • Comfortable fit: Clothes should be snug but not restrictive. Always test your gear during training before race day.

  • Layering principle: Adjust the number of layers according to temperature and weather to avoid getting too cold or overheating.

WE RECOMMEND

For Women:

  • Utö Mid Tights: Premium quality with excellent stretch, high waist with drawstring, silicone grip on the inside of the leg for a secure fit. Three pockets (one on each leg + one back pocket). Perfect for gels, phone, etc.

For Men:

Tops: Änggården Singlet (relaxed fit, moisture-wicking) or Stadion T-shirt (lightweight mesh, keeps you cool).

Bottoms: Stadion 2-1 Shorts with inner compression layer and pockets, or Bäckaryd
Mid Tights
.

Socks: Åsunden Compression Socks or Stockholm Race Socks (thin, lightweight knit for comfort). All socks are made in Sweden.

IT'S ALL IN THE DETAILS

Accessories and Extras

  • Cap or headband: Protection from sun or to keep ears warm (Bäckaryd Cap Navy or Ninja Running Headband).

  • Hydration belt or running vest: Easier access to fluids and energy during the race.

  • Plasters or Vaseline: Prevent chafing in sensitive areas.

  • Running watch: Track time, distance, and pace.

Dressing for Different Weather

  • Warm & sunny: Go minimal, in light-colored clothing that reflects sunlight. Don’t forget sunscreen.

  • Cool & windy: Several thin layers are better than one thick one. Protect ears and hands (e.g. Åsunden Touch Gloves + Neck Gaiter).

  • Rain: Use a lightweight, breathable water-repellent jacket. Avoid heavy cotton. (Änggården Windbreaker for men and women).

  • Winter: Multiple warm layers, hat, gloves, and thermal base layers. Remember: you will warm up as you run, so avoid overdressing. Options include Siljan Thermal Tights, Åsunden Funnel Neck, and Åsunden Hoodie.

The Psychological Effect of Clothing

Feeling comfortable, confident, and stylish in your gear boosts self-confidence at the
starting line. Color and fit can influence energy and mindset – wear clothes
that make you feel strong and motivated.

Example Outfits for a Half Marathon

  • May race: Shorts, singlet/t-shirt, running socks, cap, and sunglasses.

  • October race: Long tights, long-sleeve shirt, windbreaker, headband, and light gloves.

  • Rainy conditions: Lightweight rain jacket and cap.

Conclusion

Dressing right for a half marathon is about balancing comfort, functionality, and adaptation to weather and personal needs. Always test your clothes and shoes on long
training runs before race day, and remember that small details can make a big
difference. Thoughtful clothing choices increase your chances of a great
experience and a memorable race – whether it’s your first or your fiftieth half marathon.
