RUNNING THROUGH THE HEAT

There’s something undeniably beautiful about summer running. The long days, golden mornings, and post-run dips in the lake. But let’s be honest: July is no joke. The heat hits harder, the sun rises earlier, and suddenly every run feels like a test of willpower.

Yet, for most runners summer isn't a reason to stop it's a reason to adapt.

HOW TO SURVIVE

Running through the hottest month of the year demands both physical and mental resilience. Hydration becomes non-negotiable. Begin your day by drinking water, not just before you run but consistently throughout the day. On long runs, take a handheld bottle or plan a route with access to water fountains. Electrolytes are your new best friend, especially when sweat rates climb.

TIMING IS KEY

Timing is everything. Set the alarm earlier than usual and chase those cooler pre-dawn hours. If you're not a morning person, opt for shaded evening runs. Midday runs? Save those for another season.

And remember, pace is relative. Your body works harder in the heat, so listen to it. Slow down, adjust your expectations, and focus on effort over time.

SUMMER TRAINING ESSENTIALS

What you wear can make all the difference. Choose lightweight, breathable gear that wicks moisture and allows your skin to breathe. We design our summer performance apparel with these exact conditions in mind. Ultra-light singlets, quick-drying shorts, and technical fabrics that feel almost weightless, even on the hottest days. Light colours help reflect the sun, while seamless construction reduces chafing on longer efforts.

Don’t underestimate the importance of sun protection. A good running cap, UV-blocking sunglasses, and a layer of sweat-resistant sunscreen go a long way in protecting your skin and eyes during extended exposure. To help you out, we have curated our summer running essentials into a collection - take a look HERE.

EMBRACE THE SEASON

Finally, embrace the season. There’s a freedom to summer running. The spontaneity of trail adventures, the joy of group runs, the satisfaction of maintaining momentum when it would be easier to ease off. You can check out the upcoming runs we have planned this summer, including our Half Marathon Shakeout HERE.

Summer miles build strength not just in your legs, but in your mind. So lace up, run smart, and wear gear that’s as ready for the heat as you are. This is where resilience is forged. This is where runners are made.
