We have travelled all the way to Spain, but we begin our first day of training where we feel most at home..on track.
Located at the edge of both a city and a natural park along a river, the Tossols Basil Athletics stadium provides a truly unique running experience. Sited in a forest clearing, surrounded by oak trees, this is a place where nature and sports are united. Runners appear and disappear as they make their way around the track, hidden behind the trees.
Here we feel hidden away from the outside world. With faint sounds of the wind blowing through the trees and birds chirping, the calm atmosphere allows us to focus on one thing.. running.
As runners, we are used to seeing famous tracks coloured orange, red or sometimes blue. A green track is something out of the ordinary and we take it as a sign – Green means go faster.
With the whole track to ourselves, we have the freedom to move through the gears, open up our stride length, and push ourselves to the limit. As we round the bends and hit the 100m straights, we can visualize race days ahead, when training days such as this will pay off as we cross the finish lines.
A definite change of pace for our afternoon session, through Catalonia's early springtime farmlands. Traverse the fields, past grazing horses and cows. Feel the earth beneath your feet, warmed by the gentle sun, as you harmonize your pace with the tranquil rhythm of rural life.
With each step, embrace the beauty of this idyllic countryside. Experience the pure joy of running amidst Catalonia's pastoral scenery in the blossoming springtime.
After pushing through a demanding running session, a wave of satisfaction and relaxation washes over us, soothing both body and mind. The rhythmic pounding of our hearts begin to slow and our muscles return to a relaxed state, culminating in a release of endorphins.
As evening progresses, the restorative process continues. Settling into a cozy corner with a good book, savoring a nourishing meal, or engaging in lively conversation with friends about the day's triumphs brings a sense of fulfillment. These moments of leisure complement the physical exertion, creating a harmonious balance that enriches the body and enriches the soul, ensuring a holistic sense of well-being.
In a serene Spanish town, we set out for another day on the run. The sun casts gentle rays upon deserted streets, punctuated only by quaint cafes and the distant tolling of church bells. Amidst this tranquil setting, we hit the roads of this seemingly empty town. Embraced by the peaceful solitude, the empty streets provide an ideal location for an invigorating run, each step resonating with a quiet determination.
As the sun dips below the horizon, casting a mesmerizing hue of purple across the sky, our running journey is coming to a beautiful conclusion. Here on the hill side, overlooking a vast region of Catalonia, we find a dirt track perfect for our final push.
Exerting the last ounce of energy our body will allow, pushing up hill, before we wrap up the day. Ending on a high, we take the opportunity to admire the view and reflect on our fulfilling days of running. These are the moments that we cherish as runners, unique experiences that no other sport can provide.
