IN THE SPOTLIGHT

Right now, the fashion of sport and particularly track & field is in the spotlight like never before. The style that surrounds track & field is truly unique - where athleticism and elegance intersect. At YMR Track Club, we are tied to the beauty of sport, and we use the memories as fuel for our apparel design.

SPORT & FASHION SINCE 1917

Our connection to track & field goes all the way back to 1917 and the sports club IK Ymer. A track & field club with a long history of achievements in various sports.

Our Founder Peter Häggström Lindecrantz represented IK Ymer throughout his career. In 2017, to celebrate club’s 100th anniversary, Peter designed a unique collection of apparel. A re-imagination of IK Ymer's old sports tracksuit. The result gave Peter inspiration to design more running wear inspired by the image of track & field.

FROM FUNCTION TO FASHION

Track and field, one of the oldest and most revered sports, dating back to ancient Greece, where athletes competed nude or with minimal clothing to enhance movement. By the revival of the modern Olympics in 1896, athletes wore more modest uniforms—men in woolen shorts and cotton shirts, and women in long skirts and blouses from 1928.

The 1936 Berlin Olympics marked a shift with Jesse Owens' tailored, lightweight uniforms and the introduction of track spikes. Post-war synthetic fabrics replaced wool and cotton, leading to Lycra and spandex in the 1960 Rome Olympics, which revolutionized athletic wear.

THE NEXT LEVEL

The 1980s emphasized performance and aesthetics, with the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics showcasing vibrant, bold designs. These games in particular resonate with YMR Track Club today, as they inspired the creation of our 1984 Plush Sweatshirt.

Florence Griffith-Joyner, or FloJo, in the late '80s, became a fashion icon with her one-legged suits and flamboyant style, bringing glamour to the sport. Into the '90s/ early '00s, Ato Boldon’s colorful uniforms and wild choice in running glasses solidified the link between athleticism and fashion.
