Autumn in Scandinavia is a breathtaking tapestry of vibrant colors and ethereal light. The forests transform into shades of gold, fiery reds, and deep oranges, juxtaposed against cerulean lakes and fjords. The low-hanging sun casts a golden hue, creating the phenomenon of "golden hours" that seem to linger.
Crisp air carries the scent of earth and fallen leaves, evoking a sense of nostalgia. The Northern Lights begin their dance in the polar skies, adding to the region's mystique. This season, amidst the serene landscapes, holds a tranquil beauty that captivates the soul, epitomizing nature's artistry at its finest.
When you go out for a run in the woods during the cold autumn, it's essential to dress correctly to stay warm and dry. Here are some guidelines to consider:
It's crucial to dress according to the layering principle. This means wearing several thin layers of clothing instead of one thick layer. This way, you can easily add or remove clothing to regulate your body temperature.
Start with a moisture-wicking base layer, such as the Västanede Merino LS, available for both men and women. Merino wool offers outstanding thermal properties, breathes well, and regulates body temperature. It is naturally antibacterial, which reduces odor, and has a soft texture that feels pleasant against the skin. The wool is also moisture-wicking, retains heat when wet, and is biodegradable.
Over the base layer, you can wear an insulating layer, especially if it gets very cold. The Åsunden Hoodie, available for both men and women, works excellently as both a mid-layer and a base layer. This insulation garment has a fleece lining and is a 4-in-1 item, meaning it serves as a shirt, scarf, mittens, and hat in one. Choose from several colors.
A windproof and waterproof shell is crucial, especially if it's wet or windy. A lightweight, breathable running vest is a good choice, and we recommend the Torekov Performance Vest, which is nimble and lightweight, resisting both wind and moisture.
A lot of heat can be lost through the head, so a thin beanie or headband might be good to have. Choose from the Siljan Beanie available in three colors or the Åsunden Headband Navy.
Running gloves that protect against cold but also breathe are recommended. At YMR Track Club, we have designed the Åsunden Gloves, available this autumn in both navy blue and green.
If it's very cold or windy, a scarf or a buff can be useful additions. In our range of running gear, we have the Åsunden Neck Gaiter available in navy to help avoid wind chill.
Running tights are always a good choice. Söder Mälarstrand Men’s Tights and Österlen Lds Tights work great down to freezing temperatures. If it gets colder, choose the Åsunden Insulation Tights available for both men and women.
* Remember to adjust your clothing according to your personal preferences and the specific weather conditions of the day. It's also a good idea to check the weather forecast before heading out to be prepared for any potential weather changes.
